Daniel Buren: Kunst Bleibt Politik

Interview by Liza Béar took place at the Hotel Leonet, Cologne, Germany, July 6, 1974. Buren discusses censorship and art, particularly the censoring of his contribution to the exhibition “Projeckt ’74”  which incorporates elements from Hans Haacke’s censored contribution Manet-Projekt ’74. After the exhibition opening Buren’s piece was defaced by museum authorities who pasted white paper over the elements from Haacke’s piece. Photos of Kunst Bleibt Politik before and after the defacing are included. Catalog of the exhibition available here. Buren also mentions the Guggenheim’s removal of his work from the “Sixth Guggenheim International Exhibition” in 1971 (includes photo of the piece.)
